The Peak District is one of the most spectacular and challenging places to ride in the UK. Icons like the Cat and Fiddle and Winnats Pass are well trodden and often on busy roads, but we have a wealth of local knowledge to share with you - there is so much more see!
We'll take you off the beaten track to some of the most picturesque, peaceful and enjoyable riding that Peak District has to offer. From the scenic roads of the Goyt Valley to the panoramic view from Ringinglow, the views are second to none.
Our base in Buxton, famed for its natural thermal springs and stunning architecture, is ideally located to explore this beautiful area of the country. Our detailed itinerary is outlined below - we look forward to riding it with you!
Our first ride is a challenging day in saddle taking on four significant climbs, all of which are spectacular in their own right.
Our route takes us out of Buxton up Harpur Hill before we climb up and over Axe Edge to join the main Cat and Fiddle road at one of the highest paved points in the Peaks District.
After a section on nice quiet lanes, skirting the south west corner of the Peaks, our second climb comes around mile 20 and takes us along the edge of The Roaches. As we wrap around the north tip, we drink in the views before dropping down onto the Staffordshire Moors and onto the climb up to Flash, officially the highest village in Britain.
After an obligatory photo by the village sign, we'll enjoy a spectacular descent to Longnor where we'll meet our final climb of the day. Once we've got this one in the bag, we'll descend to Earl Sterndale, andl finish our day with a "relatively" flat run along the tops back into Buxton.
Today we head East, taking in four significant climbs. We maintain our altitide to begin with before descending into Miller's Dale and onwards to Little Hicklow. From here we descend into the stunning Monsal Valley and after a short ride along the valley floor we take on the Monsal Head climb.
We have a bit of respite before moving onto our next climb of the day, Longstone Edge - the climb starts steeply, but then eases off to reveal stunning views over Derbyshire. After enjoying a gentle descent into Foolow, we continue into the valley and onto Hathersage where we start our third climb of the day, taking us up to Ringinglow where we enjoy panoramic views of Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
After an exciting descent back down to Hathersage we head to Mam Tor via the Hope Valley and our final and arguably toughest climb of the day - Mam Tor. A rolling last 10 miles brings us back to Buxton.
The final day's riding is shorter and with less elevation. None of the main climbs have the distance or elevation gain of the previous days, but they are by no means less enjoyable!
We ride out south, and up onto the tops via Flagg, enjoying the views before gradually descending to Over Haddon. Here we'll hit our first major climb of the day away from the River Lankhill to the top of Long Rake. We'll then descend to Hartington and head south west before beginning the second major climb up towards Alstonefield. We drop into the valley and follow the river Dove into Milldale, where we take on the 3rd of the days longer climbs. The road climbs gently into the hamlet of Hope and up to the village of Wetton where we'll have lunch
Our journey then takes us into the spectacular Manifold valley, through the Swainsley Tunnel, past the old lead mines at Ecton and back to Hulme End.
Our final climb of the trip comes at Crowdecote, where we opt for the gentle climb through Earl Sterndale. From this point we roll down into Harpur Hill for the last time and on into Buxton…and that’s a wrap!
