Guaranteed to be some of the most spectacular scenery you have ever witnessed on your bike, Switzerland is quite possibly the most beautiful place we have been on two wheels. It has it all, with challenging climbs, picturesque routes through scenic countryside, quaint resort villages and to top it off, fantastic food.
This trip consists of 6 days point to point riding including two challenging mountain days. Distances range from 100 - 130km per day, and up to 3,500m of climbing, ticking the renowned Nufenen pass (18km, c.1000m of climbing), Gottard pass (13km, 900m) and the Oberalp Pass (10km, 600m) off your bucket list.
Day 1 – Arrival in Zurich - meet your new cycling companions and find out whats in store for the next week!
Day 2 – Baar to Neuchatel (155km, 1,120m) - travel out of the town into the scenic countryside. Cycling along quiet roads with a stunning backdrop you have the opportunity to warm your legs up and prepare for whats in store. Passing by Lake Lucern and the towns of Lyss, Huttwil and Sumiswald to name a few, we finish our day in Neuchatel with its picturesque backdrop and buzzing town centre.
Day 3 – Neuchatel to Martigny (150km, 1,300m) - we leave our base in Neuchatel and skirt along the edge of the lake to its southernmost tip of Yverdon-les-Bains. The riding is easy, the scenery is beautiful and the miles can tick away as you chat with your cycling companions. We then head down to Lausanne, on the edge of Lake Geneva where we continue along its banks to Montreux. Our day finishes in Martigny, in the foothills of the Rhone Valley at the base of the Alps.
Day 4 – Martigny to Reckingen-Gluringen (100km, 1,000m) - Today we follow the banks of the Rhone, passing through Sion and Sierre before heading into the Naturpark Pfyn-Finges, a stunning backdrop for a ride. We continue through the town of Brig, famous for its historic quarter and the Stockalper Palace, and onwards through the Landschaftspark Binntal national park to our base for the night.
Day 5 – Reckingen-Gluringen to Sedrun (100km, 3,500m) - A challenging day on the bike as we tackle the Nufernen Pass, Gottard Pass and Oberalp Pass all in one day. We start with the Nufernen, the second highest paved pass in Switzerland and voted as one of its top climbs, peaking at 2,478m (a 1,100m climb) with an average gradient of 8.5% over its 8 miles, but with several long sections of over 10%. We then enjoy the stunning descent down to Airolo and move onto the south side of the Gottard, where we tackle the Tremola (the old road), a 7.3 mile climb averaging 8%, where the top 5km are cobbled to further add to the challenge! This climb was voted the top climb in Switzerland, and after seeing the views (and the switchbacks), you'll understand why. We continue through Andermatt towards our final challenge for the day, the Oberalp Pass, which at an average gradient of 5.7% is welcome on our weary legs. The views as we climb are simply stunning and we finish our day with the run into Sedrun to relax in the comfort of our hotel.
Day 6 – Sedrun to Klosters (130km, 2,120m) - An easy and scenic start to the day as the first 40km are almost entirely downhill, passing through the towns of Disentis, Sumvitg, Trun and Ilanz. We continue throughout the afternoon with Parc Ela as our backdrop, passing through Davos on our way to Klosters, descending into the picturesque ski resort to our hotel.
Day 7 – Klosters to Zurich (150km, 1,300m) - Our last day of riding takes us along the banks of Lake Walensee and we enjoy a final climb up to Mollis before descending down to the banks of Lake Zurich for our final run in to the city.
Day 8 – Return home
